The projects affiliated with this area involve psycholinguistic experiments on Modern Hebrew and Maltese. Together with collaborators at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and at the University of Malta, the lab is studying spoken word recognition in Semitic. Experiments in these studies are designed, prepared, and programmed in the lab and carried out abroad. Results are then analyzed in the PsyCoL lab. Issues the lab is interested in within this domain include morphological processing, the issue of whether speakers of Semitic langauges retrieve consonantal roots and/or whole words from their lexicon, and the effects of factors such as word frequency, root frequency, neighborhood density, and morphological family size.
